One of the projects that the Lions in District 46 (Nevada) does is an annual Student Speaker Contest. Students begin at the club level – where each contestant receives $25 for competing, and the winner who advances through the Zone and Region Contests and wins at the District level is awarded a $5,000  scholarship.

This years topic is ‘Immigration Reform’. You can have up to four contestants. Afterwards the club will treat the contestants and their parents and teacher/coach for dinner at the Lil Wal across the street.

The first level, the club contest is at KNPB in their community room – that’s the public television station on UNR’s campus, beginning at 6:00 on January 29th.

Remember each student receives $25 for participating, and the winner $75. The winner also will proceed to the next level, which is Zone, from their there is a Region contest that culminates with the winner competing against the three other regions in Nevada in Elko at our District Convention on May 2nd.  The winner at the district level receives a $5,000 scholarship.
