This event is FREE! Homeschoolers will work on the project of their choice at home with parent supervision. All the information regarding registering projects, judging, volunteering, student timelines, how to do a science fair project, scientific method, research ideas, science fair check sheet, display and safety regulations, Local Science Review Committee, preparing for the interview, etc. can be found at:

Important Dates

December 6th– NNHS Science Fair  

Projects may be set up between 5:30 and 6:00 pm (tri-fold poster, experiment notebook & report)

By entering the NNHS Science Fair, you agree to allow judges to review your project and the public to review your project and display during the complete fair.

Awards Ceremony to take place by 8:00 pm. Projects must be removed at 8:00 pm.


December 9th - NNHS winners will need to commit to entering the Western NV Regional Science Fair by this date.


March 8-9, 2017 – Western NV Regionals. NNHS Winners Will Participate in this Event at the Reno/Sparks Livestock Events Center - Exhibit Hall


To allow as many students to participate as possible


Grades K - 4: Can choose to do research on a state, create an invention, or science fair – State: each student will read a book about a state then make a tri-fold poster with information about the state. Invention: each student will create his/her own invention, make a model of it using items around the house and make a tri-fold poster explaining the invention. (This section will not be judged. Every entrant will receive a participation ribbon and will learn a great deal by participating.)


Grades 5-12: Will do a science fair – each student will follow the guidelines on the Nevada science fair website (above) and present the tri-fold poster accompanied by a scientific notebook & report. (This section will be judged. First place winners in each section will represent NNHS at the Western NV Regionals.)


Three Qualified Judges Needed: We will need at least 3 judges per grade for the science fair. They can overlap as long as they are not related to entrants. Each judge should have a basic science, technology or engineering background. The stronger our judges are, the better chance our entrants will have at the regional competition. Know a professor or grad student at UNR, are you or your spouse qualified, do you have a local friend, neighbor or relative who is qualified? NOTE:

Experimenting with vertebrate animals, humans or animal tissues or organs is NOT recommended. You will need special approval by the Local Scientific Review Committee.
